Job Summary:
Responsible for providing clinical nutrition care and services to patients/clients in response to protocol and physicians orders.
Employment is dependent on passing the examination for registered dietitian.
This is a temporary position for 6 months until the exam is passed.
The eligible dietitian will notify the manager when the examination is scheduled and will provide a copy of the test results.
Eligible dietitian status will change to registered dietitian I status when notified by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of registration status and verified by the employer.
Essential Responsibilities: Assessment of Patients nutritional risk/status.
Development of care plans to meet nutritional needs of patients Counseling of patients and family members in the hospital or medical office setting.
Education of patients, family members and caregivers in the hospital or medical office setting in person, via telephone or in groups.
Hospital based Eligible Dietitians work with the Food Service staff to coordinate the food with the diet orders, and work to establish quality standards with staff.
Provides medical nutrition therapy that is customer focused and cost effective, while maintaining high quality service standards.
Provide nutritional screening and assessment and education of patients for appropriate nutrition intervention.
In accordance with physician orders, develop individualized nutrition care plans based on patients laboratory data, food/medication interactions age, sex, diagnosis, cultural background, pain level, preferences, and religious practices.
In the medical office setting provides medical nutrition therapy and encourages physical activity for total risk reduction in members with or at risk for chronic disease.
Conducts audits and/or menu reviews, and ensures patient menus or supplemental feedings meet nutritional requirements and physicians orders for individual patients.
Develops meal plans to meet the members lifestyle.
Document in the medical records as appropriate.
Coordinates activities with the food service department to ensure quality and accuracy of food served to patients.
Monitors the accuracy of the tray related to the MNT or diet order according to diet manual.
Checks for quality of product and is responsible for corrections and quality follow-up with manager/supervisor, staff, or vendor.
Participate in the design, development and implementation of high quality, cost effective food and clinical nutrition programs, policies and practices.
Ensure compliance with administrative, legal and regulatory requirements.
Assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of nutrition care, and service standards.
Participates in the development and implementation of quality, service and performance improvement processes related to the delivery of clinical nutrition services.
Contributes to the overall cost structure and service improvement goals of the Service Area.
Provides input to the budget process.
Conducts quality assurance audits and participates in committees and meetings to receive and report information.
Assist in compiling audit information and standard setting.
Provide feedback to Division Food and Clinical Nutrition Services staff or menu modifications and revision.
May provide in-service training to staff.
Perform other related duties as necessary.
Quality Responsibilities: Participates in the organizations quality program.
Helps identify risk factors, establish performance targets and goals.
Performs quality audits, reviews work, and assists others to improve performance.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Grade 10 Basic Qualifications: Experience Eligible Dietitian status.
Written verification, including the program directors original signature, that the required supervised practice program is completed.
thin 6 months from the date that the supervised practice program is completed.
Demonstrated knowledge of clinical competencies based on Nutrition Care Standards of the American Dietetic Association, CDA and American Society for Partenteral and Enteral Nutrition.
In the medical office setting, demonstrated group education skills.
Demonstrated strong communication, interpersonal and customer service skills required.
Demonstrated collaboration and problem solving skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations and The Joint Commission requirements.
Must be willing to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.

Education BS/BA degree in Food and Nutritional Science.
Completed dietitian program requirements at an accredited institution including at least 900 hours of supervised practice.
